SPRING marathon season is here. Manchester, Paris, Boston UK and US, and this coming weekend, London. I’m so excited. It seems like everyone is talking about running a marathon.
Normally at this time of year, I get so inspired by the thousands of runners taking part in the London Marathon that I immediately sign up to the ballot for next year’s race. Then I spend the next six months hoping and praying that I don’t get a place.
A marathon is a long way, after all.
This year it’s different because (drum roll please), I have already entered a marathon. Yes, that’s right. I have. I will be running the Florence Marathon in November.
Unlike in the past, when even talk of a marathon was enough to fill me with dread, this time it’s different. I am looking forward to it. Possibly, even a little excited at the thought!
I’m not sure what’s changed, but something has. I feel confident to take on the distance, and confident that I can survive (fingers crossed). I’m not going to set any world records, but I am going to do it.
I think I’m in the right mindset. That’s half the battle. If you believe you can do something, you generally can. I’m even looking forward to the training.
At the moment we’ve just started to price up the accommodation and flights. Chris and my friends, Jackie, Dave and possibly Rolf will also be running. And anyone else I can talk into it.
My friend, Mark Mr Motivator Havenhand, took these photos when he went to watch last year’s Florence race. It’s a beautiful place. I can’t wait!
