A blogging award – come on!

I HAVE some exciting news. Drum roll please… Champion Running has won an award!

This is very exciting. I’ve not won an award since my cycling proficiency award in the Eighties, so I’m feeling rather proud.

The feedspot panel has included Champion Running in their list of Top 200 Running Blogs.

‘There must be some mistake,’ was my first thought when I found out. My second thought was CAKE! Surely an award is a good enough excuse for cake. But I didn’t want to jump the gun. I had to be sure it was actually true and not someone having me on.

I went onto the internet and found the list of top 200 blogs. Women’s Running Magazine was in the top spot. A blog I love, Lazy girl running, was at number nine. I didn’t think I’d be in the top ten so I scrolled to the bottom. I wasn’t at the bottom either. And all this time I kept thinking, ‘I’ll not be on at all.’

When I couldn’t find Champion Running, I decided to use a keyword search. I typed in Champion. And there I was!

Number 168!

Eight below the Runners World Blog, four up from the Chubby Runner. Number 168.

‘I’m in the charts!’ I did a little dance round the kitchen. ‘I’m in the charts!’ This must be how singers feel when they get into the top forty. ‘Number 168. What a good place to be.’

When I’d calmed down a bit I read the entry for Champion Running. You can read it here.

There’s a bit of information about me and my blog, and even a picture. It’s not a good picture, on account of my fashion faux pas. ‘Why did I wear a pink top with a red striped vest?’ I asked Chris.

Dewsbury 10k 2014

Chris looked at the picture. ‘Dewsbury 10k,’ he said. ‘It was February and minus ten.’

I didn’t let the colour combination spoil the celebrating. ‘The top 200!’ I did another dance, then went back to looking at the list. There are some amazing blogs on there, so I can’t quite believe my blog is on it too.

The blogs are worldwide, and are ranked based on: Google reputation and Google search ranking, influence and popularity on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, quality and consistency of posts, and Feedspot’s editorial team and expert review.

It all sounded very serious. ‘Influence and popularity on Facebook and Twitter,’ I laughed. ‘I have Facebook and Twitter but not influence or popularity.’ In fact, my social media strategy is a bit slapdash.

Looking at the criteria, there are a few things that I could do with brushing up on, like Twitter. They’ve looked at my Champion Running Twitter account and I’ve not used it for ages. They’ve even listed my number of followers which isn’t very many. The problem, you see, is that I’m a bit shy, and promoting my writing is a hard thing to do.

‘You need to get over that,’ Chris said.

‘I will.’ I was already thinking of ways to overcome my social ineptitude. Perhaps my friend, Tracy, aka the queen of social media, could help?

The great thing about the award is that I can now display the logo/badge as a permanent fixture on my blog. This is fantastic, but does involve a bit of technical expertise. Thankfully, the team at feedspot kindly sent instructions. I intend to eat cake and attach the badge.

So, before I dash off to buy cake, I wanted to say thank you to feedspot for including Champion Running, but I also wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you for reading my blog. Number 168! In the words of Yazz, The only way is up!
